SCHOOLMESSENGER

SD73 is enhancing the use of school messenger in January.  In January you will receive more information on how to setup text messages as an option for the SchoolMessenger announcements.   This enhancement is to provide more choice to parents on how they receive important information from schools.

The benefits of SchoolMesssenger include:

  • Parents can choose how to be notified (email, phone call, text message (coming in January))
  • Absences are easier to report at 1-844-350-2647 , on the app, or website
  • More timely notification in an emergency
  • Schools can respond faster when a student is unexpectedly absent

Please continue to report student absences before 8:30 am on the day of the absence (you can report absences in advance as well)

ECOLE LGES PARENT WEEKLY UPDATE November 22-26, 2021

ÉCOLE LLOYD GEORGE PARENT WEEKLY UPDATE for November 22-November 26, 2021

Parents/Guardians,

#beexcellent

SEE US SOAR

WE ARE: #falconnation

It has been a heavy week with the situation in British Columbia and the floods and road situations. We know many of our LGES students have family in Merritt and the Lower Mainland and have been impacted by what is happening. Teachers are doing a wonderful job honoring the impact of this situation while doing our best to limit worries students have.

REMINDERS:

ALL Parents are to complete a STUDENT HEALTH CHECK daily for your child. Please keep the symptoms document handy to reference each morning.

MASKS are MANDATORY for Gr. K-7. Thank you for sending your children with a mask each day when they arrive at our campus. With the situation with the road closures, we are not getting our deliveries. It is very important that parents are sending their student with a mask or two each day PLEASE.

The District has asked that I share that FAQs for COVID-related questions can be found here on the School District 73 website. This page is linked directly to each schools' website from the PARENTS & STUDENTS/ SUPPORT & HELP menu.

https://www.sd73.bc.ca/en/community-parents-and-students/communicable-disease-prevention-plan.aspx

SNOW EXPECTATIONS

We had our first snowfall this past week and with that came a review of the expectations when 443 K-7’s are on the campus at once. Please review these expectations with your children, especially when a large amount of snow accumulates. There are consequences for students who are not safe outside and put others at risk.

➢  Snow (and ice) stay on the ground

✔  This includes throwing, kicking, etc in any form (Safe)

We don’t throw snow in the air

✔  This includes “putting” snow on anyone (Safe)

✔  Snow can be used for sliding and building (Safe)

✔  We build with our hands and don’t bring materials from home

➢  If you build it on your own, you can break it

✔  If you didn’t build it leave it alone (Respect)

✔  If you helped build it leave it alone (Respect)

✔  Ask permission before you use or add to things you did not build (Respect)

  • Crazy Carpet sliding is only permitted with your class (not at recess or lunch breaks), classroom teachers can set the specific rules with their classes
  • Crazy Carpets are hung on the hooks near Mme Harmatuk’s classroom
  • Wipe your feet before entering the building and then place your boots on the designated racks
  • Dress appropriately for the weather
  • Place/hang clothing in your locker (not on floor) Close your locker door
  • Stay off of snow hills after District plowing
  • Do not slide on hill from upper playground

WATER BOTTLE DONATIONS

Parents it is time again to ask if any of you would be willing to donate flats of water for our portable or for those kids that forget their own water bottles on a daily basis. While the water fountains are open, we are trying to minimize their use and I am a firm believer that children need water throughout the day to have their brains function the best they can. If you are out and about and can drop off water at the front entrance that would be so appreciated. We also know water is needed for those that are evacuated so if you can please send your child with a re-useable water bottle each day this is better for the environment also.

MONITORING SENSITIVE CONTENT and DEVICES

Again, we are asking that parents are being mindful of the amount of news being shown in the home which can be upsetting to our students. Also, for our senior students we would ask that you are monitoring screen time, access to youtube, limiting video game time and checking texting conversations to ensure content is appropriate. Mme Dumas and I truly need your help in ensuring your elementary aged students are not engaging in content they do not need to be.

BASKETBALL

This is a first call for parent coaches for our basketball teams. Please email Mme Dumas mdumas@sd73.bc.ca and let her know if you are able to coach, what age level (Gr. 4/5/6/7), if you prefer a girls team or our boys team, and what days work best to practice and what time. THANK YOU! We hope to be able to have league play for basketball. Boys play Tuesdays and Girls on Thursdays.

Book Fair

Lloyd George is excited to host its annual Scholastic Book Fair.  This fundraiser allows you to choose favourite books, posters, kits and novelties for everyone, while supporting our school.

The theme of the fair is, “Books bring us together”.  Think of all that we share when we read; knowledge, laughter, emotions, thoughts, dreams… Books truly enrich our lives and connect us to the world.

This year our book fair will take on an adapted format due to Covid-19 protocols; although parents will not be able to access the school to purchase books there is an online access for books using the following online link

If the link does not work, click the refresh box that shows up on the page or, try cutting and pasting the URL into your browser.

This link is live during the book fair,  and purchases can be made from midnight Monday, October 25th to midnight Thursday October 28th.

All students will also be able to purchase books during scheduled class viewing times in the library and after school, Thursday 26th to Thursday 28th.  Students from grades 3-7 may also purchase books at lunchtime on these days.

Scholastic Book Fair Schedule:

Monday, October 25th: preview of books for classes

Tuesday, October 26th to Thursday, October 28th: books may be purchased by students in the library

Be sure to ask your child about the books they will see Monday during the preview.  Encouraging children to be excited about reading is one of the greatest gifts of all!

District Strategic Plan
Every five years, our District engages our community to review and, if necessary, revise our plan. This year, we started this work with our District Strategic Planning Committee and all school leaders focusing on these three questions:

  • What type of world do you imagine/hope that our children will create?
  • What skills, attitudes, and competencies will they require to make that world possible?
  • How do we get them there?

Throughout this week, representatives from 25 different staff and student groups, and community partner agencies have provided feedback to the District. We want everyone to have the opportunity to engage with these questions. If you are interested in sharing your thoughts, please participate in this survey.

Everyone has an opportunity to contribute until the survey closes on Oct. 22. PCG Canada will gather the responses, analyze them, and share key themes from the information provided.

ERASE BULLYING MINISTRY TOOL

https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/erase/help

Get help - Province of British Columbia

If there’s something worrying you or your friends at school, let an adult know who can help resolve the situation. The erase Report It tool is an easy way to send a message to your school or school district’s safe school coordinator, who will follow-up on the situation right away. They will also follow-up with you privately, if you provide your name.

ERASEBULLYING

Erase is all about building safe and caring school communities. This includes empowering students, parents, educators and the community partners who support them to get help with challenges, report concerns to schools, and learn about complex issues facing students.

I have been asked to pass along the ERASEbullying website from Vessy Mochikas, Assistant Superintendent.

Students can access this on the SD73 website and LGES website. There is an ERASE pink link at the bottom of the homepages.

Parents and Students CAN ALWAYS let Mme Dumas and Mme DeFehr know about incidence and we will take swift action. We work hard to determine the differences with our students of peer conflict, mean behaviour and bullying and the definitions.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING! Enjoy the long weekend with your delightful kids! See everyone back at LGES on Tuesday October 12.

REMINDERS:

ALL Parents are to complete a STUDENT HEALTH CHECK daily for your child. Please keep the symptoms document handy to reference each morning.

We seem to be having high rates of children coming to school and then needing to go home in the day. Please ensure your children are fully able to attend school rather than sending them if not feeling 100%.

MASKS are MANDATORY for Gr. K-7. Thank you for sending your children with a mask each day when they arrive at our campus.

Thank you parents for staying on the perimeter area sidewalks for pick up and drop off. It would be encouraged at this time that parents at pick up and drop off are masked as well while we get through this spike in Covid cases in Kamloops.

READING IN FRENCH:

This week our PAC sponsored the COME READ WITH ME EVENT for Grade One Parents! Thank you PAC and all parents for sponsoring this with the fundraising you do for our school. While on this call two parents mentioned two wonderful cites for parents to use when assisting their French Immersion Students. See below.

https://boukili.ca/en/

IDÉLLO presents Boukili, an immersive, interactive and educational reading experience for children aged 4 and over, whether they are native French speakers or still learning the language.

Boukili encourages children to read and supports them by offering a collection of over 120 illustrated books grouped by reading level, theme and skill.

Boukili makes learning to read fun by offering quizzes and a cute avatar to customize. The theme of travel is ever-present, with the possibility of unlocking countries to discover as the children progress. They gain confidence while discovering the wonderful world of reading!

https://www.duolingo.com

Learn a new language with the world’s most-downloaded education app! Duolingo is the fun, free app for learning 35+ languages through quick, bite-sized lessons. Practice speaking, reading, listening, and writing to build your vocabulary and grammar skills.

*Volleyball is INTRAMURALS only: As per the discussion at the sports council meeting, schools will be focusing on intramural volleyball in our elementary schools this year. It was clear at the meeting that reps want to ensure students have an opportunity to play and develop their skills, so in the absence of not scheduling games between school sites, schools are strongly encouraged to provide opportunities for students to develop their volleyball skills. Mme Dumas has been in contact with our coaches and our hope is they will still host practices and possibly play scrimmages in house. We will not be hosting any other schools.

COVID Information/Communicable Diseases Protocol

We had all hoped that we could put this page of history behind us, but COVID continues to be alive and well in our community. Additionally, there is currently a bad respiratory flu and various colds that are here in our community. Please remember to complete the daily health check with your child each day. Today the Public Health Authority increased the mask mandate to include all students K-12. Please help your child with this and support his/her teacher by having your child bring a mask on Monday. We have some disposable masks in the office for those who forget, but parents are the best source for ensuring the child’s mask fits well. Students are expected to wear a mask while on buses and inside the school. Teachers continue to make Outdoor Learning a priority so that fresh air and a break in the day from the masks occurs more than just at recess and lunch.Thank you for your support and consideration with this matter.

PICK UP ON DOMINION ST.

Please know that this issue was raised at the PAC MEETING on Tuesday this week that parents are blocking safe entry and exit at the bottom of the stairs on Dominion Street. Parents picking up students please do not block the stairs. If you can spread out and have a meeting spot with your child I know that would make both staff and students feel more comfortable. It would be so appreciated by parents if other parents were masked at pick up and drop off times as well.

KEV SCHOOL CASH ONLINE- The VIRTUE OF PATIENCE was most definitely executed this week by many of you with the unrolling of KEV this week! Many MANY glitches occurred and many of you reached out to me and I apologize I am not the expert with KEV. Your concerns were sent to the School Board Office and I hope that we can get this working with efficiency in short order.

Please be sure to check your JUNK or SPAM folders for emails from KEV School Cash either after registering or as you wait for your ACCEPT letters for your students’ accounts being created.

Please go to sd73.SchoolCashOnline.com to get registered please.

SchoolCash Online - Important Things to Note from the SCHOOL BOARD OFFICE

Their SchoolCash profile must be created with the same email address as they have on record in MyEdBC. The matching is how we are confirming that the SchoolCash profile should have access to the student's school fee information.

Once the primary parent (Position #1 in MyEdBC) has signed in, they are the only ones able to attach additional users to their students by sending an invitation email to anyone they want to give the ability to (second parent/guardian, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.). Dad won't be able to pay for the kids' fees until Mom grants him access. The primary parent will also have the ability to remove any other users from the account.

If a parent changes the email address they have on file in MyEdBC they will need to change their SchoolCash profile to match. Any changes in the primary parent/guardian in MyEdBC will result in existing SchoolCash Online access being removed until the new parent/guardian signs in and grants access.

When parents are registering there is a "Say Yes To Email Notifications" that we want to encourage parents to say “Yes” to. This will allow the system to send them alerts when fees are attached to their students and when fees are overdue, etc.

If you are on Twitter or Instagram be sure to give us a follow TWITTER: @ecole_lloyd INSTAGRAM: @ecolelloydgeorge

Once media consent forms are returned we can’t wait to celebrate your kids!

FORMS- Please return all forms sent home! As soon as forms get sent to you can you please prioritize their completion. Thank you so much!

Teachers only need to communicate that to you should you request it. I apologize for any confusion but this information was just shared with me from the School Board Office.

Those parents with HOTMAIL accounts should consider changing their emails as time and time again those with challenges have a Hotmail account. (sorry!) Please use a Gmail, Telus or Shaw account to receive our school email messages.

IMPORTANT UPDATE about SEMESTER OVERVIEWS- In my September newsletter I stated that teachers would be emailing those home to all parents by October 1. The Administrative Procedure for this changed this week. Teachers only need to communicate that to you should you request it. I apologize for any confusion but this information was just shared with me from the School Board Office.

WATER BOTTLE DONATIONS- At this time I am asking Parents of École LGES to consider donating a flat of water to our school. Mme Syms in the portable could use extra water bottles and rather than giving out plastic cups the water flats from Costco made it so much easier for us for our portables at my previous location. If you happen to be out and about and want to drop off flats of water at the front door I would be so grateful. Many students forget their own water bottles and this way the can use the plastic Costco one for the day.

ATHLETICS- Remember to email Mme Dumas if you can coach VOLLEYBALL! We will be organizing for the season very soon and need your talents as coaches! October 19 the season begins!

ALLERGIES

This year we do have students who have peanut/tree nut/ legume allergies and/or medical concerns.  Therefore, please be respectful of their needs.  Also, any student with medical alert status or in need of medication while at school will need to have all forms updated through our office. Please contact Mme Struss at the office for further information.  Your child’s classroom teacher will also enforce what is needed for food requirements in the classrooms. We are trying extremely hard to be a NUT SENSITIVE SCHOOL.  Therefore, I am asking all families to refrain from sending any products with nuts (peanuts, tree nuts, etc) to avoid any type of scare for our allergic children. WE HAVE NOW DETERMINED WE HAVE OVER 20 STUDENTS in our school that this could impact. Parents of children who have epipens should know that it is my request to have your child carry their epipens on them with the intent that the second pen to administer is safely secured in our office. Storing epipens in a child’s locker is not permitted. As such, please make arrangements for your child to have one belted to their waist and the second will be accessible to staff in the main office’s first aid room. Thank you for helping us to be an ALLERGY AWARE school. I always think…if this effected my child I hope everyone in the school community was doing whatever they could to prevent a terrible situation for her.

KEV SCHOOL CASH ONLINE- I wanted to let parents know that the School District is ready to unroll the new KEV CASH ONLINE program. We will be moving towards all school fees, field trips, school fundraisers, etc being paid using this new system. Parents will need to set up an account with KEV and parents will have the ability to pay for all school related items online.  Please go to sd73.SchoolCashOnline.com to get registered please. You will not see our school or student information until the district goes live after September 15th. Our goal now is to get all of you registered. PLEASE REGISTER ASAP so Mme Struss can move forward with this.

SchoolCash Online - Important Things to Note from the SCHOOL BOARD OFFICE

Parents signing in between now and mid-September when the District “goes live” will not see school or student information.

Until school fees have been assigned to their students, when a parent signs in, they won't have anything to pay. School fees will only be visible after the District goes live only if your In Charge Secretary has attached fees to students. We recommend telling parents to create their accounts with SchoolCash to be ready to pay their school fees online and that fees will be assigned "as school schedules are finalized/in the coming weeks" (customizable to when your school will have assigned fees) so that they understand why they don't see the fees if they sign up immediately.

When parents are registering there is a "Say Yes To Email Notifications" that we want to encourage parents to say “Yes” to. This will allow the system to send them alerts when fees are attached to their students and when fees are overdue, etc.

ÉCOLE Lloyd George Parent Weekly Update for September 13-17, 2021

ÉCOLE LLOYD GEORGE PARENT WEEKLY UPDATE for SEPTEMBER 13-17, 2021

Parents/Guardians,

#beexcellent

SEE US SOAR

WE ARE: #falconnation

What a remarkable first week together we had as a school! Our French Immersion campus is looking and FEELING so great! A huge thanks to our custodians for all their hard work cleaning the school and doing contact surface cleaning! Thanks to the Staff for being so caring and kind as we transitioned kids back to long days at school. Building up stamina in the month of September is key. The kids were excited to be back and filled with JOY!

If you are on Twitter or Instagram be sure to give us a follow TWITTER: @ecole_lloyd INSTAGRAM: @ecolelloydgeorge

Please be advised that Mme Struss has been away and having relief in the main office has made it challenging. If you have questions it might be best to direct them to the classroom teacher, Mme Dumas or I as a temporary steno won’t have the answers you may be seeking.

October 19 the season begins! mdumas@sd73.bc.ca

REMINDERS:

ALL Parents are to complete a STUDENT HEALTH CHECK daily for your child. Please keep the symptoms document handy to reference each morning.

MASKS are MANDATORY for Gr. 4-7. K-3 is encouraged but as parents you are the ones that determine if that is what you would like for your child.

Thank you parents for staying on the perimeter area sidewalks for pick up and drop off.

Daycare caregivers have met with me and you may see some of them meeting their pick up kids at their meeting spot on the campus grounds. They have been approved to be there.

RETURN WALKING PERMISSION SLIP for 2021-2022

If you aren't receiving PAC emails, please send a message to lloydgeorgepac@gmail.com to be added to their distribution list.

You will not see our school or student information until the district goes live on September 15th.

ÉCOLE Lloyd George Parent Weekly Update for September 7-10, 2021

ÉCOLE LLOYD GEORGE PARENT WEEKLY UPDATE for SEPTEMBER 7-10, 2021

Parents/Guardians,

Here we are…the last weekend of summer as we anticipate the restart of the school year in the province, the district and at École Lloyd George Elementary.

We are thrilled to be welcoming back your children and as my previous Health and Safety Communicable Disease Prevention Plan email outlined, we are truly planning for the safest and most caring return we can.

I send an update every weekend and will also post this information to the Lloyd George website as well. Be sure to subscribe to our website. Instructions will come home in our September newsletter next week. If you are on Twitter or Instagram be sure to give us a follow TWITTER: @ecole_lloyd INSTAGRAM: @ecolelloydgeorge

A huge welcome back to you all and of course a special welcome to all of our new families joining us at our school.

PLEASE NOTE THE PLAN FOR FINDING OUT YOUR CHILD’S CLASS PLACEMENT. On Tuesday September 7th all children return to last year’s teacher’s classroom. Shortly after the students arrive they will have their Communicable Disease Prevention Plan Orientation. Once that is completed children will be placed into their new divisions after saying a hello to their teacher from last year. Teachers will be outside holding up name cards. Many will recognize their teacher and classmates to make this easier.

By the end of the day on Tues. September 7th, you can expect an email from your new teacher letting you know your child is placed with them and a welcome.

Your teacher will introduce themselves, tell you where to line up and any other important details for Wednesday September 8th. Thank you for understanding that this will be the most streamlined way for parents to get their information and you will also have it in writing which is important. ALL STUDENTS NEED TO HAVE THEIR MANDATORY HEALTH AND SAFETY TRAINING on Tuesday Sept. 7th so please ensure you send them 10:30-12:00. Any children not in attendance will then have to be pulled from class the day they do arrive to have the training with the Vice Principal or Teacher Librarian.

Unfortunately, this is not the year to book meetings with me about class placements. Due to our protocols and our tight space in the school, requesting changes from classes is not viable. Spaces are limited in a School of Choice, I hope you can appreciate this. I will be happy to meet with you when I can to ensure we have a conversation so that I can make note for future placement.

Please also note that I am a pretty busy this week being new to the campus and have limited time to respond to parent questions and emails, so my response time may be slower than usual. I will get back to you just as soon as I can- I promise!  Thank you for your understanding. I will be booking phone call meetings starting September 13th as my priority September 7-10th is getting to know all of my new students. I really do want to hear your concerns. Parents should know we have until September 30th to make changes if space presents so hearing what is on your mind is important. We are just very full in several of our classes which makes is complicated.

Those parents with HOTMAIL accounts should consider changing their emails as time and time again those with challenges have a Hotmail account. (sorry!) Please use a Gmail, Telus or Shaw account to receive our school email messages.

I do need to inform parents that there have been some staff changes:

Mme Sherrie Fassler (now Mme Low) is teaching Kindergarten (on the first day Mme Luci’s students will line up with Mme Low.

Mme Danica Allen is now our new Learning Assistance Resource Teacher who joins us from Brock Middle.

Mme Brittany Bauhuis is teaching Gr. 6 (on the first day though she will be outside collecting Mme Bouchard’s Gr. 3’s.)

Mme Catherine Cameron is not new to LGES but new to Gr. 3. She was wanting to see her Gr. 6’s briefly from last year so all of her Gr. 6’s from last year need to line up with her.

Mme Lindsay Waters is teaching Gr. 4 (on the first day all students that had Mme LeBeau return to line up with her) *Please meet Mme Waters at the front of the school by the flagpole.

Mme Kimberley Rammuno is returning from her Maternity Leave so a welcome back to her (on the first day Mme Church’s students will line up with Mme Ramunno).

Mme Barb Niwa is new to us from South Sahali and is teaching prep and two afternoons in Gr. 2 with Mme Dufour.

Mme Kim Rottluff is a new CEA the students will see as part of our team this year.

NEW STUDENTS TO LGES – there will be sign with ALL NEW STUDENTS LINE UP HERE by the portable or families may bring their student to the front door of the school so that they can be shown to the library where they will be just for a short period of time.

The full staff roster will come out in the September newsletter that will be emailed home and room numbers are given so parents will know.  Watch for an email with just the September newsletter next week for LOTS of information. It is long, but filled with everything I deem necessary for a new school year. I really want you to know as much as you can since you are unable to come inside.

COMMUNICABLE DISEASE PREVENTION PLAN RESTART INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

Parents were emailed these three documents:

École Lloyd George’s Communicable Disease Prevention Plan

École Lloyd George’s Line Up Map

SD73 Daily Health Check- STUDENT for Parents (Reference Sheet)

WELCOME BACK ÉCOLE LLOYD GEORGE STUDENTS AND PARENTS! I hope you had a great summer! This is a further email to the update sent by Dr. Nixon our Superintendent.

I will send another email that is my Welcome Back type email following this communication. I will be letting you know about our themes for this year, our school vision and more typical school start up information. It will be less Health and Safety and more School Spirit!

To say that I am beyond excited to see everyone would be an understatement. Returning to LGES as the Principal is truly a gift.

Mme Dumas, our new Vice Principal and I have been busy working on plans for the return of school during this fourth wave of Covid-19. We have been on many Zoom call meetings to hear the information we need to have a successful start-up. A huge credit to the staff of LGES who have also been on site to prepare for start-up already.

As children return on September 7th they will receive Health and Safety training and constant reminders about our environment and framework we will be learning in.

The Universal Precautions we will be taking involve:

  1. Stay home if ill:  Students and Staff Members
  2. Hand washing
  3. Do NOT touch your face
  4. Respiratory Etiquette
  5. Cleaning and Disinfecting
  6. Give Personal Space
  7. Masks for all staff and Gr. 4-7 students indoors/ K-3 are encouraged but this is at the discretion of our parents to discuss your wishes with your child. Our staff will give no direction to our primary students on this topic.

WHEN WE ARE IN SESSION~IF THE SCHOOL DOES CALL YOU PLEASE PICK UP IMMEDIATELY. It is possible children will begin not to feel well and we will need them to be picked up as soon as possible.

Classes will be a door assigned to them. It will be very important parents you remind your child about personal space and hand washing. It is imperative that all of our students abide by the protocols laid out for us all.

The STUDENT DAILY HEALTH CHECK IS ATTACHED. Please keep this reference sheet and screen your child daily to ensure they are symptom free. There is no document to sign and return, rather we know parents understand now what to look for in their child and to keep them home if ill.

Students who arrive after 8:35 and are late create significant challenge for our staff. We are staggering our entrances and if a child is not in line they miss their gradual entry into the building.

I am PLEADING with the community to avoid lates- The school doors  will be locked after 8:35. Children are to arrive in time to line up by the warning bell and be ready to enter the school for 8:35 and attendance. If your child arrives late they need to come to the main doors so that Mme Struss can sign them in.

PARENTS ARE TO USE THE REGULAR SAFE ARRIVAL system to book their child’s absence.

LEARNING GROUPS

There are no Learning Groups or Cohorts this year. We are returning to regular interactions both in the school and outside. This is so exciting!

PARENTS as VISITORS

Parents are not permitted inside the campus just like the protocol was in June. Parents need to remain off school grounds and stay on the sidewalks during arrival and dismissal. Should parents need to convey information they will need to email the teacher, administration or Mme Struss. Feel free to call the school at any time.

Parents can email Mme DeFehr for urgent matters and set up an appointment if needed to enter the building.

 MASKS

Information on masks has been made clear. Students in Gr.4-7 and staff will be required to wear masks when indoors. Children can wear their own or will be given one by the teacher upon arrival.

K-3 students are not required to wear a mask at school, but we respect all decisions that are in the best interest of your children.

RECESS AND LUNCH CHANGES

8:30    Warning Bell

8:35    Classes Begin

10:05   Daily Announcements

10:10   Recess Starts

10:25   Recess Ends

12:05   Lunch Begins

12:05   K/2/4/6 EAT- OUTSIDE to PLAY at 12:25

12:05   1/3/5/7 PLAY- INSIDE at 12:40 to EAT

12:25-12:40- OVERLAP with all outside

1:00   Warning Bell to end Lunch

1:05   Lunch Ends/ Classes resume for afternoon session

2:46     Day of Learning Ends

HEALTH AND SAFETY and DISCIPLINE

Students not following health & safety guidelines puts other students and staff at risk.  Therefore, we will take the following steps:

  1. Provide 1-3 warnings depending on severity and context
  2. Require the student to return home immediately
  3. The Principal will call the parent and let them know that the child is not respecting the expectations. Due to density allotment in the main office, I cannot house children at this time for long consequences. Parent pick up will be required and a Behaviour Conduct form recorded that the child was unable to adhere to the guidelines required on that day.

STUDENT MATERIALS

ALL STUDENTS MUST BRING A WATER BOTTLE. Water fountains are now permitted at this time, but I still advise filling a personal water bottle when needed. Students can fill their water bottle from our water stations in the hallways throughout the day.  Water bottles need to be taken home nightly for cleaning by parents.

ASSEMBLIES

Unfortunately, there will be no assemblies as we can only have 50 people in the gym at a time. We can have no large gatherings and therefore cannot host assemblies. Virtual assemblies will be our reality at this time.

Have a very happy weekend with your children. I hope this email helps explains some more of the details you may have been pondering. You can always email with questions and I will do my best to answer them if I can.

Respectfully,

Mme DeFehr

Welcome Back and Hello from Mme DeFehr August 28, 2021
WELCOME BACK and HELLO from Mme DeFehr August 28, 2021

Bonjour École Lloyd George Families,

I wanted to reach out to welcome you back to the 2021-2022 school year and let you know how excited I am to be leading and supporting your children. I feel honoured to be a part of the French Immersion program and I am also grateful to lead alongside our new Vice Principal, Mme Dumas. As you know, the staff at École Lloyd George are passionate about teaching and learning and I am looking forward to being a part of the #falconnation staff, students and parents have created. SEE US SOAR is our work in 3 words at Lloyd George being the Falcons that we are!

I visited the school a couple times in June and had the great pleasure of meeting many of your children on those days. I want to let parents know that I have been an administrator since 2005. I have spent the last four years leading Juniper Ridge Elementary. Hard to believe, but true, I was actually the Vice Principal and Principal of LGES over a decade ago. My first Vice Principalship was at Lloyd George.

Attached are some important dates of holidays, non instructional days where LGES is closed and of course when Photo Day is. In my September newsletter that I will be sharing the first week of school, you will also be provided a more detailed monthly calendar with all school dates, deadlines and information about the upcoming school year. All dates are also listed on the Lloyd George website in the calendar and I have placed the updated BELL SCHEDULE for 2021-2022 on the website as well. We dismiss 11 minutes later now that the 2 week Spring Break is in effect. 2:46 pm is our new dismissal time.

I also attached a fun BACK TO SCHOOL Interview and Manifesto you could print and complete with your child to get them preparing for back to school. I am a strong believer in a Growth Mindset and making mistakes so I hope with that with constant reminders our kids that have big and little worries will realize that learning never stops and mistakes are opportunities. In fact, I plan to share this with the children often "On ne cesse jamais d'apprendre" {We never stop learning}. Being new to my role at LGES, I can tell you... the learning curve is steep! I will also be sharing with the children that giving our best effort will lead to our most excellent habits being formed. #beexcellent to yourself and to others.

Parents, I will be emailing again next weekend with all details you need to know about school start up with Health and Safety Protocols and of course all you need to know about the first day of school. Mme Dumas and I have Principal's Meetings Monday August 30 and Thursday September 2. I also want to let parents know that I sit on the District Health and Safety Commmittee. I am the only Elementary principal on this commmittee, but during the Pandemic this has been hugely beneficial as I am often first to know what expectations are coming from the Ministry and our School District. I have a meeting with the District Health and Safety Committee Wednesday September 1. Once we are told by our Senior Team what is required I will be communicating this to you and to the LGES staff. In fact, each weekend parents can anticipate a Parent Weekly Update from me so that you always know what is happening at our campus.

All parents are members of our Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) and I have already met with the PAC Chair, Linda Piroddi, and I am so pleased with the support and organization of the LGES PAC. I hope parents will consider being a part of PAC to share your ideas and voice. If not, I know all parents work behind the scenes to support our school so thank you.

Kindergarten Parents can expect communication Monday August 30 from Sherri Struss(Administrative Assistant) on behalf of the three Kindergarten teachers. A reminder to Kindergarten parents that your start up will look different than Gr. 1-7's as you start on a gradual entry.

I wish you a wonderful rest of the summer. I am looking forward to celebrating the successes of your children and getting to know them better.

Merci,

Mme Carol DeFehr (pronounced Da' Fair~ I told the kids in June a good way to remember it is Mme DeFehr is DA' FAIREST PRINCIPAL in all the land (many didn't know Snow White, but they liked that I am fair!)
